Biography

Dr. Chekitaan Singh has been working as a Consultant Eye Surgeon and Specialist in Uvea and Vitreo-Retina at Ishwar Eye Centre in Rohtak, since June 2008. His main areas of interest and expertise are uveitis, ARMD, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, management of endophthalmitis, micro-incision and topical phacoemulsification, congenital cataracts, glaucoma diagnosis and management, and neuro-ophthalmology.

Dr. Chekitaan completed his MBBS from Pt. BD Sharma PGIMS in Rohtak. He then obtained the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) title in Ophthalmology in 2005 from the prestigious Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai. He further underwent specialized training at this institute in vitreo-retinal diseases and research. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow, UK (FRCS) and has cleared the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO, UK) examinations.

During the course of his training, Dr. Chekitaan Singh gained good exposure and knowledge in all aspects of ophthalmology, and developed a key interest in uveitis, vitreo-retinal pathologies and their management. He is well-versed with all areas of practical processes including visual acuity testing in children and adults, evaluation of squint in children, refraction/retinoscopy, orthoptic evaluation, slit lamp biomicroscopy, tonometry, gonioscopy and keratometry. He is also familiar with procedures involving Humphrey visual fields (HVF), fundus biomicroscopy, FFA / ICG / ERG / COG / VEP, lacrimal sac syringing and probing, and community ophthalmology (with screening camps for cataract and diabetic retinopathy). He is adept at handling ophthalmic emergencies, Potential Acuity Metry (PAM), Contrast Sensitivity Testing (FACT), corneal topography and laser treatments.

Dr. Chekitaan’s surgical skills include Extra Capsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE) + Intra Ocular Lens implantation (IOL), Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS) + IOL, phacoemulsification + IOL ECCE + IOL + trabeculectomy with Mitomycin, squint correction, pterygium excision, DCR, DCT, evisceration, and ball implants, etc. He has assisted in orbital decompression and ptosis, ectropion and entropion surgeries, orbital floor and medial wall repair, intraocular foreign body removal, besides other specialized functions. In addition, he has had considerable experience gained through exposure at academic seminars related to retinal anatomy and physiology, management of facial nerve palsy, pathogenesis of ROP, management of posterior segment trauma and lid injuries, LASIK techniques, macular function tests, etc.

Dr. Chekitaan Singh has published and/or presented several papers and posters in journals or conferences connected to his profession. He has also won many awards and citations at the academic and professional levels during the course of his career.
